FARGO, N.D. (Valley News Live) - Fargo Fire crews say a child escaped through a window after fire broke out at a northside apartment complex on Tuesday. The call came in just after noon in the 2800 block of 8th Street North in Fargo.

Firefighters arrived to find smoke and flames in the four-plex. They were able to quickly knock down the flames and searched the building for anyone who may be inside.

The Battalion Chief tells Valley News Live one child was home when the fire started. The child couldn’t get out the front door and had to escape through a bedroom window.

The child was not hurt and no other injuries were reported. The Battalion Chief says there is significant damage to the lower unit of the complex where the fire started. Tenants in the other units should be able to return to their homes Tuesday night.

Fire officials say initial damage assessment of the fire is estimated at $32,000.
